What is DiSC Assessment?

DiSC® is a personal assessment tool used by more than one million people every year to help improve teamwork, communication, and productivity in the workplace. DiSC profiles describe human behavior in various situations—for example, how you respond to challenges, how you influence others, your preferred pace, and how you respond to rules and procedures.

How does DiSC work?

The DiSC journey starts with a simple test. You take a short personality assessment to determine where you “fit” into the four main personality reference points. There are no right or wrong answers. The average person’s profile tends to stay fairly consistent over time, but the accuracy of the test has been improved over the years.

What does DiSC stand for?

The acronym stands for dominance-influence-steadiness-conscientiousness (or compliance). These four words describe the behavioral traits held by your employees:

  • Dominance (D-style)
  • Influence (I-style)
  • Steadiness (S-style)
  • Compliance (C-style)
Each letter represents one of the four basic behavioral styles (although DiSC assessment results often reveal a combination of the letters, like Di or SC. Each style is associated with our primary natural behaviors.  

There are no preferred styles. Your style does not indicate that you’ll be good at one type of job over another, for example. Each style has the potential to flex or stretch into other styles when needed. It might just take extra energy or some practice.
